The 78xx Series, a Fixed Output Voltages Regulators

The 78xx Series, a Fixed Output Voltages Regulators - The 78xx series is designed to output one voltage level, as they come in 5v, 6v, 7v, 8v, 78xx Adjustable Output Regulator (7 to 30V)9v, 10v, 12v,
The 78XX series of voltage regulators are designed for positive input. The “xx” indicates the output voltage of the device as generally the series named e.g 7805, 7806, 7807, 7809, 7810, 7812, 7815, 7820, and 7824 and depend on every manufacturers for differing naming schemes.
But there is space to tweak the 78xx series such they can deliver over 1A output current or need to obtain adjustable voltages and currents even this device mainly as a fixed voltage regulators, follow each datasheet for this purpose.
Or you may see one of Fairchild’s variation on 78′s family here at http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheets/228/390068_DS.pdf.
We also provide you with informations if you have questions about 78 series regulator such as can a higher voltage be output with a lower input voltage, output voltage drops when a load is connected,
what diodes need to connect for preventing damage because of higher output than input voltage, kind of external capacitor should be used, and etc. Find it here.
