Technique of Paralleling LED strings with Current Balancing Schematic - The schematic diagram below shows technique of paralelling LED strings with current balancing. The technique consists of a master LED string and multiple slave strings in parallel.

Diode D is present only in the master LED string so that the linear pass elements, Q, in the slave LED strings have sufficient voltage across them to allow regulation. In some applications the number or type of LEDs in each string may not be the same.

By providing winding taps on the transformer or inductor (different supply voltages to each string), may prevent an excessive dissipation in the linear pass elements when having a common supply voltage for each string.
