Connecting the L293 IC to Peripheral Interface Controller and DC motor -The following figure illustrates how to connect the L293 IC to Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC) and DC motor. 

The L293 H-bridge Motor connection diagrams.L293 H-Bridge which is known as an IC motor driver can be functioned for simultaneous, bi-directional control of two small DC motors.

Each motor usually requires 3 pins ( 2 for direction, and 1 for enabling the motor). Connect the enable pin of L393 IC to +5V for saving the number of pins required and use only the direction pins to change directions and turn the motor ON or OFF. 

Setting the direction pin with high and low on the other direction will make the motor spin in one direction and vice versa. Just set both direction to low then you can turn your motor off.
