DC Flourescent Lamp Circuit Diagrams

DC Flourescent Lamp Circuit Normally, flourescent lamps are powered by ac currents since only ac current can excite the gas inside it. If one attempts to connect a dc current to its electrodes, it will not produce flourescent light. In areas where there are no ac power lines available and the only source of electric energy is a battery, the only way to force a flourescent to light is to convert the dc current from the battery into an ac current. To do it, you need this dc to ac converter circuit. This is not just a converter, this is specially designed to produce an ac frequency which can excite the lamp to produce flourescent light.

DC Flourescent Lamp Circuit

Normally, flourescent lamps are powered by ac currents since only ac current can excite the gas inside it.

The coil L1 is an ordinary choke coil for triacs commonly found in dimmer circuits. It must have high inductance and ampere values.

If the converter circuit has a dedicated battery supply, you can remove both L1 and C1.

To make the circuit easy to construct, a standard stepdown transformer is used but wired in reverse in the circuit.

The transistors T1 and T2 become very hot in operation. Both must be heatsinked properly to avoid damage from overheating.

Warning: The transformer outputs a high voltage ac current. Never touch its output electrodes while the circuit is running. Insulate the contacts and wirings which carry high voltage current properly.
